NORDIC COMPASS ANALYTICS

Nordic Compass is the search of a consultant to understand analytics from a wider perspective and write a method of practice on "How To Do Analytics". The story has been conceived in the form of poetic reflections recorded by a prince who sets out on a mission to the North Pole in search of truth, knowledge and wisdom.

Following is the narrative of his account that forms the philosophy.
 

"As the sun passed by, to follow time, nature kept her shadows warm - in the huddle of an evening light, arms open to embrace the moon. The prince sat down on the ground and wrote on his diary, the passing moment of another sunset.

Every story of creation is an answer, the answer of a need that follows its purpose. Life on earth, follows the sun. The gentle olive shoot and the little rice plant grow every day.  Rains from the mountains water their soil. The Sun, Moon and the stars make this happen. What a wonderful story is this! When the twittering birds announce daybreak, they announce the truth of love - "Time transforms everything into new". This is the soul of nature - life evolves in harmony with need and time. The morning dew and evening breeze are a testimony of this faith. 

Truth is evolution of life in response to need and time

When winter settles down over the surrounding valley, the hills walk their faith to every stranger passing by. Every story is a mission. Footprints follow the master and the journey continues until the summit.
 

On the road to hilltop is the poor man’s refuge. An umbrella of love and a fountain of wisdom greets everyone here. The nest is a wonder of sparrows. Many find their stories here or the journey continues with a new purpose.
 

Time testifies the truth of every road traveled – “farther the distance, straighter the path”. 

Knowledge is understanding of truth in accordance with one's purpose 

On a clear night sky, I stood by the hills to observe the stars. The North Star pointed to my eyes, the beauty of a stellar conversation –
 

“Seven stars of change to the Pole Star of North
Seven flickering stars to the Wonder Star of the Poles
Follow the star of purpose 
Fulfill your mission"

The hills are a reflection of this light. They transcend the space of time and remind us of our mission - "Every path of truth is a continuous trail of several other truths; follow the light, find your story. "
 

I found on a stone rock, a memoir for all who visit the valley – “Every path of truth is a shadow of time; a paradigm of change written over sands of time - one leads to the other. Follow the footprints; find your story”

Wisdom is knowledge applied to create new meaning 

On a classical coincidence, the prince's reflections on truth, knowledge and wisdom, all reinforce the same truth - "Analytics is the interpretation of a story by purpose", a process of knowing by objective, "what causes what" and how it leads to the final outcome.

 

In the language of scientific management where logic delineates imagination from understanding, analytics is a perspective of "reasoning"; a road map of knowledge guideposts that leads to successful realization of goal or purpose.

North Star with its pointer constellation symbolically represents this principle of analytics - "a route map of sign posts, to the goal of purpose"  -  the Northern Pointer or Nordic Compass.
